Anne Hutchinson () was an influential Puritan spiritual leader in colonial Massachusetts who challenged the male-dominated religious authorities of the time.
Anne Hutchinson was born Anne Marbury in Alford, Lincolnshire, England, and baptised there on 20 Julythe daughter of Francis Marbury and Bridget Dryden. Her father was an Anglican cleric in London with strong Puritan leanings, who felt strongly that a clergy should be well educated and clashed with his superiors on this issue.
Marbury's repeated challenges to the Anglican authorities. Tried by the General Court and interrogated by Governor John Winthrop, Hutchinson was found guilty of heresy and banished. She was later killed in in a massacre by Native Americans. Anne Hutchinson, Guilty or Not.
